Golf in Bangladesh Information for international golfers
Information for international golfers
Practical answers, without the tourist-board gloss. If something here is unclear, write to the club and a member will reply personally.
Before you travel
Visas
Most nationalities require a visa. Visa on arrival is available to many passport holders at Dhaka airport, and the club can issue a letter of invitation to support an application.
When to come
November to March. The weather is dry and mild, the courses are at their best, and the club’s fixture calendar is at its fullest.
Playing as a visitor
Green fees at partner courses are modest by international standards. The club arranges tee times, caddies and equipment hire; a handicap certificate is helpful but not required.
Caddies and etiquette
Caddies are standard at every course and are worth taking. Dress is smart casual — a collared shirt and golf shoes. Phones stay silent on the course.
Getting around
Dhaka traffic is the main constraint; allow generously. Chattogram is an hour by air or five by road. The club arranges transport for visiting golfers.
Beyond the golf
The Sundarbans, the tea gardens of Sylhet, the beach at Cox’s Bazar and Dhaka’s Mughal old city — all within a week’s itinerary.
When to come
The playing season and what to expect from each part of it.
| Period | Weather | Course condition | Recommendation |
|---|---|---|---|
| November – February | Dry, 15–27 °C | At its best | The ideal window. Book ahead around the Friendship Cup in November. |
| March – April | Warm, 22–34 °C | Good, firming up | Very playable. Start early and finish before the afternoon heat. |
| May – September | Monsoon, humid | Playable but slow | Golf continues throughout. Expect soft ground and higher scores. |
| October | Clearing, humid | Recovering | A reasonable shoulder month as the courses dry out. |
Fixture dates and course closures are confirmed by the club office on request.
What a round actually costs
Green fees for visitors at the courses LION plays are modest by regional standards — considerably less than the equivalent round in Thailand, Malaysia or the Gulf. Caddie fees are separate and small, and a caddie is worth taking.
Because rates differ by course, by day and by whether you are playing as a club guest, the office quotes on request rather than publishing a table that would be out of date within a season.
The club charges nothing for arranging your golf. Write to info@liongolfclub.com with your dates and a member will come back with the options.
Overseas membership
If you visit often, Overseas Membership keeps your playing rights, adds tee-time assistance at partner clubs, and includes digital GOLFERS.
